What are the responsibilities and job description for the Control Panel Technician position at Actalent?
Description:
Panel Technician II (Panel Builder II) has the responsibility of assembling and wiring Industrial Control Panels, Electro/Mechanical sub-assemblies, and/or major assemblies built to internal and/or customer specified quality requirement. This person is responsible for performing specialized assembly and testing of industrial control panels. They will wire and assemble control panels, operate equipment such as hand tools and diagnostic hardware. This includes layout of components, mounting and wiring of components per schematic and finally mounting of back-panel in cabinet. The technician will read schematics and wiring diagrams, maintain good housekeeping practices. In this position, the Panel Builder will learn directly from the Panel Shop Lead.
Other tasks will include building other electrical sub-assemblies, inventory management in department and cross training with other positions in department. Miscellaneous tasks as dictated by production needs will also occur on occasion.
• Build industrial control panels to UL508A standards and customer drawings/specifications
• Comply with company and industry safety standards
• Read wiring diagrams
• Review bills of material
• Prioritize panel builds based on customer needs and resource availability
• Conduct non-energized quality assurance testing on panel builds
• Direct junior panel shop technicians
• Work with company procurement personnel to place orders for panel shop materials
• Support procurement personnel to track order materials with vendors
• Receive, warehouse, and inventory materials
• Support procurement with inventory audits and control
• Maintain workspace cleanliness and organization

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
• 1-2 years building electrical panels or electrical installations
• 1-2 years installing parts, wiring, testing
• 1-2 years of production or mechanical related experience (wiring of industrial components, basic fabrication, or mechanical assemblies)
• Ability to read schematics and electrical wiring diagrams
• General mechanical aptitude for the assembly process.
• Can identify panel components physically and on schematic Wire Terminals, Transformers, relays, timers, PLCs etc.
