Job Description
We are seeking an Estimator to generate estimates for the supply and installation of conveying and storage systems, primarily in the grain handling and storage industry. This role supports a steel fabrication manufacturing environment and involves working with customers, project managers, sales staff, and other engineers to develop pricing quotes. You will consider the cost of material, labor, and engineering hours while reviewing customer blueprints, internal blueprints, BOMs, and CAD files in AutoCAD to generate cost estimates. Additionally, you will collaborate with shop leadership, construction leadership, and project management to estimate labor hours and costs. This position also involves helping the firm identify potential estimation software to purchase and digitize legacy estimation records. Some travel is required, estimated at 10% or less, typically returning home the same night.
Responsibilities

- Consider cost of material, labor, and engineering hours in estimates.
- Review customer blueprints, internal blueprints, BOMs, and CAD files in AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with shop leadership, construction leadership, and project management to estimate labor hours and costs.
- Help identify and recommend potential estimation software.
- Assist in digitizing legacy estimation records.
- Travel locally to customer sites, estimated at 10% or less, typically returning home the same night.
- After the initial contracting period, you may be asked to climb a ladder on a tall grain elevator to get field measurements.
Essential Skills
- Associates degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, project management, or related discipline.
- Experience supporting a steel fabrication, construction, or grain handling and storage industry.
- 3 years of prior estimation experience.
- Working experience creating spreadsheets in Excel.
- Some experience with AutoCAD.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 5-7 years of estimation experience.
- Experience supporting the agricultural industry.
- Experience managing engineering or construction projects.
- Experience working within an estimation software such as Costimator.
Work Environment
This is a small, family-run company where employees wear multiple hats. After the initial contracting period, you may be asked to climb ladders on tall grain elevators to get field measurements. The role involves some travel, estimated at 10% or less, typically returning home the same night. The work environment includes using technologies such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel, and collaborating closely with various teams and leadership.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
