Description:
1. NYS Unrestricted technologist license or restricted license to histotechnology
2. Experience with cutting and embedding
Essential Responsibilities:
• Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation.
• Prepares and maintains working solutions for routine H&E staining on automatic strainers and for special staining
• Performs routine maintenance of equipment and troubleshoots equipment failures.
• Ensures that the day-to-day assigned tasks are consistently and accurately completed.
• May participate in the training and orientation of new laboratory employees and check the work of junior level employees when delegated by the management team.
• May participate in all of the following histology tasks: embedding, IHC, staining, microtomy, specimen processing, filing, cleaning up, etc.
• May serve as a resource to others in resolution of complex problems. Resolves routine problems and refers more complex issues to management.
• Logs appropriate information into dedicated Lab logbooks and forms.
• Perform QC of specimens.
• Complies with all Lab SOPs as well as all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
• Handles and disposes of specimens and chemical waste based on the laboratory's process.
• Report any non-compliance behaviors to the Laboratory Manager
• Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in all areas of the lab
• Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem(s) or immediately notify the manager
• Aides in discrepancy resolution
• Verify expiration dates, shortages and maintaining of supplies within the laboratory.
• Unpacks and verifies orders received and stocks inventory areas.
