Machine Designer

Description:

The Machine Designer will be responsible for designing on custom order machines/equipment. They will also be supporting their legacy equipment and making edits and changes as needed. They will prepare working plans and detail drawings of parts of machines and will have to plan, design and coordinate the integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing processes with a high level of proficiency. The design requirements include: reverse engineering of customer parts and using feedback on deficits and desired improvements to make changes to components through change of material, layout or redesign. Additionally, they may be requested to create a new system or component to meet specific industry needs. This is a mid-level position, so the individual will need to be capable of designing and troubleshooting complex mechanical functions while working independently.

Day to day responsibilities:

• Work as a project team member with our clients to take their requirements from concept through to a fully functional, production ready, custom machine
• Design, quote, implement, and troubleshoot custom industrial machines and automation
• Create layouts, component and assembly drawings using SolidWorks
• Perform equipment and system calculations
• Develop and perform hands-on proof of concept tests
• Assist Controls Engineers in developing custom industrial motion control & process control systems
• Assist with motor and field device selection
• Mechanism and component application, design, selection, layout and drawings
• Compile and document bills of materials
• Document all project phases and create a final as-built documentation package
• Check detail and assembly drawings prior to manufacture
• Oversee project manufacturing process, vendors, assembly, testing
• Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing
• Assist with installation, startup and Site Acceptance Testing as needed
• Adhere to quality standards, schedule and budget constraints
• Create build drawings for use in fabricating, machining, and assembly of components
• Communicate effectively with machine and fabrication shops on build procedures and make revisions to projects as necessary
• May be required to visit customer locations for field application/measurements/verifications
• Interpret drawings supplied by customers and/or sales representatives
• Frequent long hours of sitting are necessary to complete drawings and other computer-based tasks

Skills:

• Machine design or Equipment design
• Proficient in Solidworks
• Pneumatics
