What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weld Engineer position at Actalent?
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Production process engineering with an emphasis on welding/fabrication operations in a low to mid volume production job-shop environment
- Welding and assembly fixture/tooling design
- Experience with automation integration, operation and support
Additional knowledge in the following areas is preferred:
- CNC machining, broaching and grinding operations
- Working knowledge of materials
- Lean manufacturing
- Quality assurance
- Weld analysis, including visual inspection and destructive testing
- SAW welding
Requirements of the job:
- Associate degree in metal fabrication or design/engineering plus 6-8 years of work experience.
- Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
- Weld fixture conceptualization, cost estimation, design, and build oversight/support with a focus on Poka-yoke principles.
- Strong knowledge of GMAW welding processes, specifically 1/8”-1/2” thick mild steel.
- Production support of daily welding activities to identify, assess, and resolve problems.
- Train and mentor welders in production methods.
- Assist with developing and maintaining company welding standards/specifications including training, revisions, and implementation.
- Provide welding technical support for quoting activities and review customer drawings for manufacturability.
- Assist with specifying new welding equipment.
- Develop detailed and comprehensive manufacturing operations and instructions for production processes.
- Support of existing automation systems including troubleshooting and vendor support.
- Identify opportunities for improvement by evaluation of existing processes, procedures, and fixtures.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and MS Office products.
- Work with vendors to support fixture builds.
- Exceptional organizational and verbal/written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Manage multiple projects with deadlines and prioritize work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Some travel may be required.
