Summary: The Controller will be responsible for the daily functions of the accounting team. The incumbent will oversee financial accounting functions, cash management activities, month-end closings, and will be the point person on external audits. The Controller is also responsible for preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial reports for the program staff.

Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions including Treasury, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Payroll.
- Supervise team of four accounting staff.
- Support the growth of departmental staff in coaching and training in accounting related areas.
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly budget vs. actual reports, year to date and full year forecasts to program staff.
- Oversee and drive the month-end close process and maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger including timely account reconciliations.
- Support Program Directors in creating and managing departmental budgets and execute grant budgets and amendments as needed.
- Manage all functions in accounting and operations software (MIP) to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Ensure proper management reviews & approvals of all necessary sub-ledgers and documents to ensure compliance for annual A-133 audit.
- Utilize best practices to implement more efficient accounting procedures and financial controls.
- Preparation and efficient execution of the annual operating and capital budget, in conjunction with the CFO and leadership.
- Work with outside auditors to ensure timely and accurate documentation as requested.
- In conjunction with the CFO and outside auditing firm, execute a clean and accurate IRS 990, MA Form PC and MA Uniform Financial Report.
- Ensure fraud prevention systems/processes and financial controls are in place to mitigate financial risks to ACTION.
- Attend Risk Management Committee meetings as a representative of the Accounting Department.
- Ensure GAAP accounting practices and maintain sound accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist and lead other projects to support agencywide growth.
- Bachelor's Degree in the field of Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, required.
- Minimum of 10 years work experience in finance or accounting
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in management and supervision.
- MBA and/or CPA certification, a plus!
- Experience with $20M operating budget.
- Proficient in GAAP, understands finance concepts and cash management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Effective communication skills, written and oral.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, along with effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Microsoft Office, including Excel, required.
- Willingness to work primarily in an office environment.
