News Assignment Editor

The assignment desk is the center of it all, breaking stories, assigning crews and coordinating with producers. We`re looking for someone who gets a rush from juggling it all and winning on all platforms, broadcast, digital and social media. Action News Now is an aggressive and fast-paced newsroom determined to tell interesting stories and break news.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Responsible for listening to scanners
• Responsible for coordinating field crews
• Answer phones and email to determine what makes a great story
• Coordinate live shots and content sharing with affiliates, NBC and CBS
• Post stories to station website and social media sites

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Extensive knowledge of editorial standards, ethics, and media law
• Superior organizational skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Ability to make decisions and take a leadership role
• Excellent phone skills, be able to take information from a viewer and determine if there is a story
• Basic writing skills and be able to communicate written and verbally
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with people at the station and away from the station Ability to represent the station in the community and at station events
• Passion for news

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor`s Degree in journalism or communications background preferred
• At least one year of newsroom experience preferred
• Knowledge of the North State area a plus

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

• Must be able to work with people throughout the newsroom and different departments within the station
• Must be able to work with the public and public officials
