What's the job all about?
The Cost Accountant is an integral member of the Finance & Accounting team analyzing manufacturing costs, preparing reports, presenting accurate data, as well as recognize and recommend cost-effective solutions. In addition, this role will provide support to assist in establishing company budgets and strategic goals.
- Responsible for month-end close, general ledger, manufacturing accounting, standard costs, establishing costs
- Analyze monthly financials and report on variances of actuals versus budget, month-to-month, year-over-year and recommend adjustments
- Maintain monthly allocation entries, recording amortization of capitalized manufacturing variances
- Monitor inventory control activities, such as reconciling physical vs perpetual records, cycle counts, excess, raw material, operations costs, bill of materials (BOM), work in progress (WIP), Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
- Participate in month-end close and inventory accounts and prepare reconciliation.
- Responsible in maintaining standard cost (materials & labor) updates as needed.
- Assist in creating a model to capture actual manufacturing cost (materials, labor & overhead) in order to determine product pricing.
- Support and provide internal/external auditors with accurate data and explanations.
- Develop automated reporting and forecasting tools for efficient use of data.
- Complete account analyses of workorders, variances and inventory activities
- Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline and improve efficiencies.
- Contribute to the budget process in preparing data to be used by department leaders to create their annual budgets; liaison and communicate and regularly to ensure completion of budgets in a timely manner.
- Work closely with accounting team regarding the proper posting of overhead expenses.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing & Supply chain departments to ensure proper procedures are established for inventory movement.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments, as well as independently, while understanding the necessity for communicating and collaborating work efforts with other team members
- May be required to work overtime occasionally, as well as other duties that may be assigned
What you can offer?
Education/Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 3 - 7 years of experience as a cost accountant; biotech industry a plus
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookup, etc.)
- Strong knowledge and skills of any ERP, (Dynamics NAV) software a plus
- Exceptional knowledge of accounting, finance, budgeting, cost control principles and (GAAP)

- Solid understanding of costing processes for manufacturing, equipment and service based businesses

- Salary Range: $90-130k per year
*The salary of the final candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, specialization, skills, abilities, and training. The salary range represents Active Motif's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of the posting. Certain positions may be eligible for additional compensation such as commission, bonus, and stock options. All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements.
Salary : $90,000 - $130,000
