What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Active Resources Inc.?

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supervises staff accounting and finance personnel. The successful Controller will enjoy working in a fun and fast-paced environment and is able to deliver results under tight deadlines.

Controller duties include:

  • Managing all accounting operations and required financial reporting
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Coordinating activities of external auditors
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Managing the budget process
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Evaluating accounting and internal control systems including appropriateness and effectiveness of accounting policies and procedures
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Hiring, training and mentoring skilled accounting staff

Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of GAAP and experience in consolidated financial reporting as well as a strong background in all areas of accounting, including public company reporting. Experience with IFRS is strongly desired. Mining experience is a plus.

The Controller position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or another closely related field. Experience in public accounting and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) certification is strongly desired. Successful candidates should have seven to ten years of experience in increasingly responsible accounting or finance positions including as a Controller or Assistant Controller. Salary is commensurate with experience.
