Laboratory & Infection Control Manager This position is currently eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus! Adair County Health System is searching for a Laboratory & Infection Control Manager. This position assumes 24-hour responsibility for management of the fiscal, personnel and operational functions for all sections of the Laboratory department and IC. Facilitates maximum accuracy, cost efficiency and productivity of the laboratory. Develops strategies for improving operations through active participation in continuous quality improvement initiatives for the laboratory and IC.
Understand and abide by the Adair County Health System Code of Conduct, confidentiality statement, EMTALA guidelines and general hospital policies, procedures and related practices.
Interviews and hires staff in areas of responsibility. Provides corrective action plans for staff as required.
Ensures the staffing level and mix is appropriate for the workload of the sections and shifts.
Ensures appropriateness of staff orientation and competency materials and coordinates completion according to facility and regulatory guidelines.
Completes performance evaluations for direct report personnel.
Writes and maintains department specific job descriptions.
Ensures compliance with the requirements of laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Responsible for CLIA certification and renewals.
Evaluates, recommends, and coordinates implementation of new tests, procedures, instrumentation, equipment, and/or methods.
Ensures standard operating policies and procedures are current and adhere to the laboratory’s document control systems.
Monitors quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives appropriate to the areas of responsibility. Identifies and acts on opportunities for improvement.
Communicates in a clear, concise, and credible manner. Maintains a high level of professionalism when interacting with staff, peers, clients, and administrative colleagues.
Assists with the development of budgets and monitors expenses appropriate to laboratory management. Utilizes quality improvement methods and analysis to increase efficiency and improve cost effectiveness without compromising quality of service necessary for patient care.
Assists with the development of business plans and evaluates capital equipment needs.
Provides input to the development and implementation of departmental goals.
Seeks and participates in continuing education, professional meetings and other activities designed to improve or enhance management and technical knowledge and skills.
Collaborates with Antibiotic Stewardship chair
Investigates infectious cases as indicated and reports to IC committee
Ensures hand hygiene audits are performed in all departments.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field with one-year clinical internship in an accredited Medical Technology program or approved alternate career path
Registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) as a Medical Technologist or categorical registration by ASCP in one of the laboratory sciences is required.
Demonstrated proficiency in communication and working well with others is required.
Knowledge of personnel and fiscal management is preferred.
Three (3) to five (5) years hospital experience required.
Must demonstrate supervisory/leadership capabilities.
