Purchasing Agent
Overall purpose of the role: Purchase goods, materials and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.
As the purchasing agent you will carry out all tasks allocated by the purchasing manager, which may include conducting research on potential vendors and suppliers.
Essential duties for this position:
Conducting research on potential products, vendors, and comparing price and quality to ensure the best deal.
Verify purchase requisitions via tool demand by comparing items requested to master list (part count sheet and shortage report) clarifying unclear items.
Generating and reviewing purchasing documents, to include preparing purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; obtaining recommendations from suppliers for substitute items and obtaining approval from requisitioning department.
Confirming acknowledgment of orders with vendors to include tracking status of orders and ensuring timely delivery.
Contacting suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues.
Maintain updated records of purchased products, delivery information and invoices.
Communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations.
Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
Evaluating and selecting suppliers and sub-contractors.
Adhere to quality control policies and procedures, knowledge, skills and abilities.
High level of internal communication within department team.
Purchasing has many responsibilities not limited to the above. Some examples are project bidding, general office work and field support assistance.
Qualifications:
· Strong multi-tasking skills
· Clear and effective communication both verbal and written in English
· Able to effectively negotiate
· Strong attention to detail
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, not just data entry but formulas for numerous calculations
· Purchasing experience - 2 years minimum required. (Construction purchasing experience a plus).
Construction plan review, reading and understanding for measuring and calculating materials needed.
