Great opportunity for an entry-level reporter to learn the ropes or for an experienced reporter to hone his or her skills and live in an outdoor paradise.
The Challis Messenger is hiring a full-time reporter for our weekly newspaper. You’ll cover a bit of everything – from elections to features to government meetings to outdoor recreation to community events to mining to land use issues. Photo skills are a plus. AP knowledge expected. Applicants must be committed to learning and being part of a small team. Work schedules vary for reporters, so flexibility is a must.
You'll get guidance from a long-time print journalist who wants to ensure that young journalists have the opportunity to learn, try new things and find their voices.
Challis sits next to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area. The famed Middle Fork Salmon River is right here - as are its sister streams, the Main stem, East Fork and North Fork. Idaho’s tallest peak - Mount Borah - is a short jaunt away, as are 24 of the state’s tallest 25 peaks. We’re surrounded by the Salmon-Challis Forest. The Sawtooth Forest and Sawtooth National Recreation Area are nearby.
