Programmer Analyst

One-Stop Student Services Center / Information Technology

 

JOB SUMMARY:

This programmer analyst supports maintenance and innovation for the One-Stop Student Services operations spanning Registrar, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts. 

The role is responsible for application development and offers expertise in the full project life cycle, encompassing analysis, development, testing, and support. The selected individual must be capable of handling all aspects of the development process, including requirement development, analysis and design, coding, and testing. The applications involved range from academic to financial domains, with a focus on the student experience and student record. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for documenting processes and updating the University’s IT project portfolio with project statuses and keeping project stakeholders in both departments informed of progress.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President of One-Stop Student Services Center with a dotted line to Director of Postmodern ERP

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Programming & Data Integrity:

  1. Daily support of current application software spanning student information and registration, financial aid, and student accounts.
  2. Conduct regular data audits to assess data quality.  
  3. Perform coding, testing and debugging of application program changes.
  4. Work closely with the AVP and One-Stop unit leads to improve student and user experience alongside boosted efficiency and increased automation.
  5. Advise and work with department to resolve issues and suggest programming alterations to enhance productivity.

Project Management: 

  1. Meet with One-Stop Student Services Center end users to initiate or respond to requests for new program development (innovations) or modifications to existing software (maintenance).
  2. Analyze intention of requests and formulates best methodology to apply to problem, factoring in variables such as time, system resources, impact on other systems, technical ability of end user, etc.
  3. Update internal documentation of all application development along with process mapping.
  4. Partner with stakeholders on end user documentation to ensure alignment.
  5. Prepare sound time estimates for all phases of technical design projects; report regularly on progress.

Other Quality-Assurance Duties: 

  1. Monitor performance of programs after implementation.
  2. Interfaces with federal and third party entities such as the US Department of Education (USDOE), National Student Clearinghouse, etc.
  3. Conduct research on best practices in student information technologies; make recommendations to optimize workflow and database for student success.
  4. Troubleshoot, document and resolve department- and University-related issues.
  5. Working with software vendors to test and evaluate new products.
  6. Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, departments, and vendors.
  7. Cross-train personnel in design, setup, and usage of applications so that suitable backup is in place for support.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned by AVP or Director of Postmodern ERP.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand.
  2. Able to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment.
  3. Able to juggle multiple priorities and prioritize as needed.
  4. Attention to detail with strong commitment to quality.
  5. Able to collaborate, assess and evaluate needs as presented by University management.
  6. Ability to navigate change and think critically and creatively.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Game Design, Computer Engineering or related technical field, or comparable experience in a related technical field.
  2. Minimum of two years’ of experience in computer programming is required.
  3. Higher education experience is preferred, but not required.
  4. UniVerse database experience – Including any Pick variety.
  5. Web Development languages is a plus – Java, LAMP and or UNIX skills a plus.
