What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver, Transport position at ADESA?
Reporting to Designated Manager, transports and delivers customer vehicles to required destination in support of management and customer service goals in providing auction transportation in the most safe and efficient way possible. Perform all duties assigned by the Manager. Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state or federal laws are followed at all times. This is a safety sensitive position.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide prompt and courteous service:
A. Demonstrate friendliness and proper manners with and around every customer.
B. Maintain a professional appearance and work area consistent with the Handbook.
Make sure customers receive prompt, efficient and courteous attention from all employees.
Be familiar with procedures for handling all aspects of customer questions, complaints or disputes.
Resolve any customer complaints in a friendly, courteous manner. Advise the Transportation Manager immediately of all serious complaints or incidents.
Load and unload safely and free of damage.
Immediately report to Transportation Manager anything that occurs which may potentially jeopardize the ability to physically or legally operate a motor vehicle.
Immediately report to Transportation Manager all driving related incidents, including traffic citations, warnings, accidents or mechanical problems experienced on either private or public property, on or off the job.
Practice conservative, cautious and courteous operating habits (see attached list and exhibits) .
Promote positive employee relations and morale whenever possible by practicing sound human relations principles to promote teamwork at all times. Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.
Maintain a good flow of communication with all personnel.
Assure good operating condition of equipment and facilities. Advise the Transportation Manager of all breakdowns and maintenance needs immediately.
Make sure the area conditions do not threaten employee or customer safety. Respond to and follow proper procedures on employee and customer accidents, injuries and loss or damage to any property. Report all incidents to the Manager or Supervisor immediately.
Practice proper loss prevention and reaction procedures. Report all incidents properly and immediately to the Manager or Supervisor.
Educational Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required. One (1) year over-the-road truck/trailer experience
required along with knowledge of DOT regulations and requirement. Car hauler experience preferred.
Essential Functions and Physical Requirements:
Must be able to read English and/or comprehend motor vehicle traffic signs and signals and detailed information through oral and written communication.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be accessible when off duty through reliable communication methods (such as telephone of equivalent) for occasional unscheduled work assignments.
Must not be under the influence of any condition or anything that could distract or impair the ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle. Must submit to and pass controlled substance investigation and testing according to company policy.
Must be able to adhere to the work schedule. Daily attendance, punctuality and availability are critical essential functions of the job.
Must perform to the department work production quality and quantity standards. Must be able to work effectively and harmoniously with a diverse variety of people.
Must be qualified to operate a motor vehicle, possess a valid state driver’s license in the current state of residence, be insured and/or insurable if required by the state and have reliable means of transportation to and from work assignments. Must not have a motor vehicle record or criminal record that does not meet the minimum standards set by company policy.
Must successfully complete the Company Orientation and Training Program required by the Transportation Department. New drivers must first ride with an experienced driver as an observer until they understand the auction facility layout, traffic flow and transportation process. New drivers must also demonstrate their driving skill and their familiarity with the position and sale day techniques to an experienced driver before driving solo on sale day. The Supervisor will check and approve or disapprove non-English speaking/reading drivers for adequate understanding and comprehension of traffic signs, signals and driver safety policies before they drive solo.
The physical activity requirements of the position are Heavy Physical Work .
Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision comparable to definitions for Mobile Equipment Operator Standard

Physical Working Condition:
This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental working conditions, including temperature changes, outside weather conditions, slightly elevated ambient noise levels, minor potential physical hazards, such as electrical, mechanical equipment and cleaning and pesticide chemicals; and minor atmospheric conditions affecting skin or respiratory systems, such as fumes, odors and dusts associated with car exhaust, internal and external service station/convenience food and petroleum dispensing operations.
