Commodity Manager Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for the management of the Stamping Tooling and Machinery/Equipment within the Indirect Purchasing organization for the Americas.
  • The candidate must have a strong analytical presence, excellent communication skills, a proactive / self-directed approach to business, must be able to work in a dynamic business environment, and should possess a unique entrepreneurial spirit.
  • The candidate must have an understanding of contract structures and management, including terms and conditions and contract assistance. This person must also have experience influencing across complex, matrixed organizations. This role primarily focuses on Indirect Sourcing.
  • On a personal level, the successful candidate will be an individual of unquestionable integrity who enjoys operating in a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment. The candidate will be a self-starter who is able to work independently in entrepreneurial and fast-paced environments. They will be decisive but collaborative.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Stamping Tooling, Machinery and Equipment sourcing in North America region.
  • Develop and implement commodity strategies and actions to achieve fiscal year cost reduction goals, diversity objectives, rebates, and optimized payments terms.
  • Effectively manage category supply base by establishing strong vendor relationships, managing complex negotiations, and overseeing a thorough selection process for key suppliers
  • Serve as a liaison representing Adient externally towards suppliers on all commercial and business relationship content including but not limited to quality, cost, delivery, contracts, risks, and technology.
  • Support Make vs Buy decisions.
  • Conduct on-site business reviews/post launch audits with key suppliers.
  • Identify and evaluate market changes and new technologies as the category leader.
  • Communicate progress and results to senior management and associated stakeholder community.
  • Ensure expedient and compliant implementation of new contracts throughout organization.
  • Participate in Global Tooling BCC sourcing activities via working closely with other regions like China or EU, as well as the AME team for the tooling import to NA.
  • Travel time is 10-20%, as needed.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science candidates with the following core areas of study: Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Accounting or Entrepreneurship. Other technical degrees with business background also considered.
  • 10 years of relevant purchasing experience or other disciplines that require significant negotiation / exposure to sourcing processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and strategy development skills.
  • Well organized, self-motivated, and resourceful managing complex situations
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to effectively interface with cross functional teams and all levels of senior management.
  • Ability to support all aspects of the commercial relationship with the supply base and key internal stakeholders.
  • PC knowledge (MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong technical tool making experience, experience in design of tooling, gages, and tool to press experience in stamping tools/dies.
  • 10 years’ experience in machinery and equipment, i.e.: robotics, assembly line integration, weld and manufacturing cells, stamping presses etc.
