Position Title: Business & Compliance Analyst
Work Schedule: Full Time (12 Months/1950 Hours per year); Monday – Friday as scheduled, some evening and weekend work may be required
Job Summary:
The Business & Compliance Analyst will handle various cross-functional responsibilities primarily within the College's Business Operations with a focus on accounting activities. Such responsibilities include performing financial account review/reconciliations, and monitoring/assessing/recommending internal control functions, managing record-keeping and reporting for the College’s investment accounts, providing support to the Vice President of Business Affairs (VPBA) on special projects and strategic analysis. This is a high-visibility position with regular interaction with the College’s President and Board of Trustees.
Duties (Examples listed below are not an all-inclusive list):
· Manage record-keeping for the College’s endowment and scholarship awards.
o Update endowment asset valuation report database (Endowment Solutions) on a monthly basis.
o Reconcile general ledger accounts for endowment activities (gifts received, earnings, withdrawals, etc.).
o Calculate endowed scholarship net assets released from donor restrictions for reporting on annual financial statements.
o Coordinate between Office of Development and Office of Financial Aid annual scholarship award amounts for awarding to individual students.
o Maintain record of scholarship recipients as audit detail to support reported scholarship net assets.
· Reconcile/monitor student accounts receivable and allowance for uncollectible accounts.
· Review selected account reconciliations and perform internal assessments on a monthly and quarterly basis. Report findings to VPBA.
· Assist the Business Office in the facilitation of the annual audit and preparation of the annual tax return.
· Work with Student Business Services to analyze the performance of third-party collection agencies. Make recommendations to improve upon the collection of student accounts.
· Consolidate and codify the College’s financial policies.
· Assist the VPBA on special projects and strategic analyses. Examples may include pricing analysis of the College’s lines of business, ROI analysis of facility construction/renovation and programs, researching and applying for Federal, State or Local governmental tax credits.
· Prepare and present to the Board of Trustee Committees on various relevant topics.
Other Special Projects as Assigned:
· Research higher education institutional best practices
· Assist in the implementation of newly introduced accounting standards
· Suggest/implement process/procedure/policy best practices
· Ensure various departments are adhering to defined policies/practices
· Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Skills:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting
· Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
· General ledger and accounting experience including reconciliation skills
· Good critical thinking skills and attention to detail
· Positive attitude and personable
· Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, sometimes with frequent interruptions
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Adherence to confidentiality of information
· Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Desired Qualifications:
· Certified Public Accountant
· Master’s degree in accounting or business-related field
· Experience working in higher education
