Role Summary
Summary of Responsibilities
To provide purchasing support to all other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and projects are completed timely.
Overall management of the Purchasing Department, including supplier materials as well as the overall management of all activities within the crib and its processes.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all facility activities and personnel reporting to this position
- Plan, organize and carry out purchasing program to ensure quality materials, parts, sub-assemblies and components are obtained at the lowest prices with expeditious delivery, and best possible terms and maintains updated lists of suppliers
- Source and select suppliers and vendors, negotiate prices, analyze quotations and award purchase orders
- Develop detailed specifications for products purchased and ensure specifications are met by suppliers
- Expedite deliveries of purchased material, adjust and settle complaints and approve supplier invoices for payment; may engage in freight negotiations
- Maintain effective communication and coordination with all internal customers, plant managements and associates; maintain positive employee relations; listen to issues and concerns and respond within 48 hours
- Follow the principles of the Magna Employee Charter
- Promote and practice “safety first” by immediately addressing any hazards, defective equipment or unsafe conditions within the department, manufacturing floor and work stations
- When purchasing new material, work with Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator to ensure that all new material coming in are safe
- Work closely with the Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator as necessary to ensure safe and healthful working conditions
- Ensure audits are completed for Health, Safety and Environmental
- Support new program launches and make improvements in the Division’s CMS system
- Determine, achieve and improve productivity, quality, environmental, health and safety goals
- Determine obsolete stock and remove from inventory
- Report on status of departmental projects as required
- Complete correspondence, forms and reports in Microsoft Office and other programs
- Handle confidential information on a regular basis
- Conduct performance evaluations of Purchasing staff as specified by company goals
- Participate in Continual Improvement activities
- Ensure all purchased material and components meet quality standards
- Maintain all pricing contract records
- Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies
- Ensure all MP&L systems and processes are in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.

Additional Information
Education, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or related discipline
- Minimum of 8 years of progressively more responsible logistics/materials/production control and inventory leadership experience in high volume stamping/welding manufacturing operation and at least 5 years purchasing experience required
- Honest with high integrity
- Excellent human management skills
- Excellent computer skills to include thorough knowledge of MRP system
