Job Summary
A successful Optician will guide each patient through their entire optical experience with the highest level of service. Once patient information is gathered, education is required to ensure they have all necessary knowledge to make an autonomous decision. Every patient is different, requiring the ability to adapt approaches to unique needs and requests. Our patients expect fast, friendly service and attention to detail when selecting and fitting corrective lenses.
The Optical team also manages the checkout process. Teamwork and communication is required to execute these operations with consistency, efficiency and effectiveness. Our structure only works if team members are able to work together toward common objectives and goals on a daily basis.
Overall, the AFEC team has experts in each position but can float based on the needs of the team and patients.

Responsibilities & Duties
OPTICAL
- Interpret prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists
- Operate manual lensometer and other tools to achieve proper fittings for patients
- Educate patients on their corrective lens options and help them make a choice that fits their medical needs as well as lifestyle preferences
- Provide honest but compassionate feedback about aesthetic choices in frames
- Create work orders to ensure delivery of the proper lenses
- Repair broken frames and adjust eyeglasses to ensure a proper fit
- Communicate with physician, questions or concerns about prescriptions and other eye-related issues
- Work side-by-side with Optical team to achieve a successful, efficient, and growing Optical Department
ADMINISTRATION
- Answer phone calls and respond accordingly
- Complete patient checkout process steps
- Understand patient insurance benefits and payments owed on date of service
- Process patient payments
- Walk patients through contact lens purchases
- Schedule referral and follow-up appointments
- Assist Patient Care Coordinator as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Excellent customer service required
- Sales experience preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- High comfort level with technology
- Able to juggle tasks in a busy office setting
- Easily adaptable to change
- Open minded
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
