Job Title: Surgery Scheduler
Reports To: Manager, Test & Surgery Scheduling
Job Summary: The Surgery Scheduler schedules surgical procedures for multiple physicians and assures that all the appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule. Scheduler receives requests to schedule procedures from the clinic and schedules the procedure according to established guidelines. Scheduler provides accurate information and maintains open communication with needed departments and physicians regarding schedule changes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Schedules surgical cases at multiple surgical facilities.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment needed for individual cases.
- Receives all pre-op patients and verifies all information, including times, are correct and understood.
- Communicates with surgical personnel regarding coverage needed.
- Coordinates any auxiliary hospital charges performed by support personnel such as casting, home health, etc.
- Communicates any schedule changes with appropriate personnel.
- Fill in and assist others in department when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
- Previous scheduling experience in a health care environment.
- Customer Service experience.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in the field of orthopedics or pain management preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong computer skills
- Knowledge of insurance plans and criteria.
- Ability to professionally handle a high volume of phone calls.
- Ability to work in a professional and courteous manner.
- High level of organizational skills, excellent documentation, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
- Ability to perform all tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and staff.
- Ability to assist and train staff and physicians in proper coding techniques.
