POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant - ASC
Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients. Assists physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting. Performs duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team while sharing various tasks with other licensed and non-licensed members.
- Obtains and records patient medical history and specific information related reason for visit.
- Reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to nurse. Measures and records accurate vital signs.
- Assists patients with position changes, range of motion exercises, standing and walking.
- Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments, and performs surgical preps and simple dressing changes.
- Provides additional therapies, procedures and treatments which may include but is not limited to physical, EKG, phlebotomy and physical therapy procedures.
- Transports patients, equipment, specimens, blood, etc., throughout ASC as required.
- Maintains patient medical records; obtains information necessary to initiate routine procedures as required.
- Assembles patient charts for procedures.
- Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment. Activities may include but are not limited to tidying room, cleaning equipment, changing bed linens, restocking work areas, keeping rooms and hallways clear of debris, emptying trash, defrosting refrigerators, cleaning cabinet surfaces, and completing room cleans.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with ASC policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuries to management.
- Assists in the ongoing development and administration of ASC Quality Improvement program.
- May perform X-rays after successful completion of required X-ray safety course.
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Current BLS card (CPR).
- Color vision acuity is required to safely perform the duties of this position if such duties are related to lab duties.
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Assistant course, and be listed as a CNA on the Ga. Registry OR
- Graduate of a U.S. Military Medic course, OR
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program and Certified as a Registered Medical Assistant. If eligible, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
