Position Summary:
The Environmental Engineer is responsible for the development, administration, and implementation of environmental programs in accordance with governmental requirements. This includes air, water and waste management programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage implementation of requirements associated with a government environmental compliance program at the assigned site
Interface with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies on issues relating to compliance
Act in a leading role in the development of environmental management systems to facilitate an increase in understanding and accountability
Manage environmental consultant resources for project work
Submit reports to regulatory agencies
Work closely with site leaders to ensure compliance with program requirements
Work with site and regional environmental staff, as well as operations, maintenance, and engineering leaders at the site, to ensure environmental requirements are integrated with plant level standard work
Review and analyze environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; determines impact on operations, and publish compliance strategies and requirements
Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact
Interact with regulators to resolve compliance issues; establish permit requirements and assists in regulatory audits
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical or environmental engineering, chemistry, or equivalent field
5 years of experience in environmental/environmental regulations
Additional Qualifications:
Experience working with Environmental Management Systems - RC14001
Experience working with governmental regulatory agencies
Experience in chemical manufacturing environment
Must have an uncompromising drive for compliance and willingness to escalate issues as needed
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and teamwork skills
Ability to interface with and influence all levels of plant personnel
Demonstrated leadership skills
Strong auditing abilities
Must be highly motivated, energetic, and a self-directed individual with good analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience with manage multiple priorities
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
