Position Summary: The HSE Specialist provides global support for driving safety excellence. This position focuses on the implementation of effective operating mechanisms that assure regulatory compliance, management of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) programs, achievement of performance excellence at the operating line level, and supporting a mature HSE culture via the systematic processes. This role will be located at our Hopewell, VA location. Duties and Responsibilities: · Demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE excellence and a passion for occupational safety· Lead by example and engage and inspire employees daily to want to work safely and look out for their co-workers' well-being· Support sustainability efforts to reduce waste streams to drive towards a minimal waste manufacturing process.· Support programs for recycling of paper and plastic goods, electronics and packaging waste· Work with operations and technical teams to identify process waste reduction opportunities· Support the implementation of HSE programs and practices consistent with the regulatory and corporate requirements· Provide technical support across the organization· Assist in evaluating performance and developing trends to identify areas of focus for improvements· Provide hands-on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with HSE standards and policies· Provide technical support for HSE programs and procedures· Support HSE activities and teams to improve and drive the HSE maturity level via Continuous Improvement· Support line level engagement with HSE programs by spending in the time operating areas · Assist the development, implementation, and verification of the site’s compliance training programs· Assist and support the operating areas on a 24/7 basis as needed. (i.e. plant turn a rounds)Basic Qualifications: · Demonstrated experience improving safety performance or programs, engaging in HSE activities and exemplifying safety as a value. (Developmental role)· Six Sigma (Green Belt or Lean certified) or equivalent experience implementing productivity / continuous improvement projects is desired· Valid Driver’s License Additional Qualifications:· Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental science, engineering, chemistry, OR 3 years of experience in an occupational safety, health, or environmental in lieu of degree a plus · Professional Certificate (ASP, CSP, CHST, OHST) a plus· Thorough working understanding of US Occupational Safety, EPA, etc. laws and regulations· Strong verbal and written communication skills· Ability to provide timely and effective communications to all levels of the organization· Demonstrated ability to use influencing skills to accomplish goals and objectives· Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all level of an organization· Strong decision-making skills with bias for action balanced with consensus building abilities· Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple / varied tasks efficiently· Demonstrated proficiency with incident investigations and root cause analysis· Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, databases, SAP, graphics)
