Materials Planner
Our client is seeking a highly effective, energetic, and highly organized individual with great communications skills to be responsible for planning of inventory, supplies, and capital goods. This person keeps records of all acquisitions to ensure that purchases remain within budget and on schedule. Creates requisitions and checks each item for quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements. This person will serve as liaison to vendors and suppliers. Investigates supply sources, issues request for quotations, proposals or bids for those items not covered by any existing purchasing arrangement. Ideally, this person will apply buyer methodologies and techniques to accomplish planning goals. Some travel will be required for this role.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Planner for various product lines as well as services to support its silicon carbide facility.
- Liaison between engineering and supplier:
- Work with engineering to evaluate the product to break into sub-assemblies for manufacturability.
- Coordinate engineering drawings and communicate the packages to suppliers.
- ERP experience, material master, BOM display, supply and demand, understand sales orders and purchasing procedures.
- Understanding of general Intellectual Property at the client.
- Understanding of Incoterms and the impact that they have on all purchases and contracts.
- Finding/searching for specialized vendors.
- Understanding vendors’ capabilities and how they may fit in with client’s goals.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and be a liaison between Suppliers and Engineers.
- Send RFQ’s out to vendors throughout the world and communicate our needs. It is critical to understand the various cultures of foreign countries.
- Negotiate costs and scopes when necessary. Negotiations are critical.
- Visiting key vendors may be needed (domestic and foreign).
- Document control – review drawings.
- Document control – release drawings from Engineering.
- Inventory Management – understanding and communicating with Project Team as to what is needed and when and work with suppliers to meet those needs/
- Write Purchase Requisitions and follow through with the release of PO’s through the approval process.
- Know what projects are in play and be able to explain to management why costs are what they are and what the background on them are.
- PO Management with Suppliers – communication and follow-up with Suppliers (liaison between
Suppliers and Engineering). - Quality oversight – relaying the quality requirements of client to Suppliers and following up after an order has been place.
- Communicate with Logistics Team of what is happening around the world with deliveries.
- Working with Legal Team and vendors on Supply Agreements.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in business or related field is preferred. A combination of job related experience, ongoing educational progress, and related certification may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree.
- 7 years purchasing experience as a direct material planner or buyer.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities within established deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Very strong negotiation skills to successfully negotiate with vendors.
- Comprehensive understanding of standard terms and conditions instituted in supply agreements.
- Able to understand and interpret procurement and sourcing metrics and scorecards.
- Strong PC computer skills including Excel (pivot tables and V-Lookups a must), Word and Power Point.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a group to accomplish individual and team objectives.
- Working knowledge of MRP and ERP principles and materials management; Oracle experience a plus.
- Experience with supplier certification processes as well as Make/Buy analyses.
- Familiarity with productivity programs and Lean concepts.
- Flexibility to adjust to a regularly changing and fast-paced business environment.
- Travel, including international, up to 15%.
Salary : $110,000 - $115,000
