JOB SUMMARY:
The Optometrist, reporting to Optometry Director, will perform routine eye exams. This includes diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the visual system. Follows and supports the CARE model for patient experience.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducting routine eye examinations, including visual field tests.
Diagnose and provide appropriate vision treatment plan to patient including discussion and explanation of treatment plan with patient and/or guardian.
Responsible for taking preliminary case history including current medical and ocular conditions and drug allergies.
Performs pre-testing with assessment of visual acuities, pupils, eye muscle alignment, visual fields, color vision, depth perception, tonometry, pupillary distance, and intraocular pressure.
Instills eye drops for purpose of dilation.
Educate patients and guardians on the importance of maintaining proper vision health.
Communicate with the optical technician and/or patient coordinator regarding patient treatment plans.
Prescribe medications as necessary and appropriate.
Execution of proper follow up and continued care of patients involved in multi–step treatment plans, particularly for those patients referred for specialty care.
Assists in outside specialist referrals when necessary including referral letters.
Assists patients in frame selection to be ordered.
Makes adjustment to frame and lens position to fit patient’s facial structure by heating, shaping or bending frames.
Repairs damaged frames.
Perform and document repairs, calibration and testing of equipment.
Maintains inventory of materials and cleans instruments.
Assists patient with insertion, removal and care of contact lenses.
Arrange and maintain optical displays.
Use lensometers to determine and /or verify lens prescriptions.
Verify finished lens spectacles match the optical prescription.
Ensures optical room is properly disinfected and set up for patient.
Other Duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
OD required.
Licensing/certifications as required by state.
Maintain Continuing Education (CE) as required by state.
Current CPR certification.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel using personal car as required by the company.
Occasional overnight travel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate physical activity; requires handling average-weight objects up to 10-15 pounds
Standing, sitting and/or walking more than 4 hours per day.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous material and situations that require extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
