What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Payroll position at Advocate Aurora?
Leads the system-wide payroll operations, ensures a consistent approach to delivery and management and oversees related regulatory compliance.
- Provides leadership and direction in the utilization, accuracy and effectiveness of payroll operations. Develops and drives key project plans to increase automation, consistency, accuracy, and integrity of payroll systems and operations.
- Provides expert consulting regarding payroll initiatives and tools to facilitate overall organizational performance. Partners with various internal departments including accounting, finance, operations, human resources and legal to resolve financial and related operational issues.
- Collaborates with Compensation, Benefits, Human Resources, Accounting and Information Technology personnel on transaction integration/processing.
- Ensures payroll processes are in compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory reporting requirements and organizational processes, practices and guidelines.
- Develops and establishes an effective internal control structure and self-audit procedures that will ensure compliance, consistent and efficient application of payroll cycle policies, data integrity and security.
- Develops and implements appropriate payroll related policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, while minimizing manual effort to ensure compliance. Ensures corporate policies are properly administered and new policies are adequately documented and communicated across all corporate organizations.
Position is primarily remote - willing to travel to Milwaukee and Downers Grove once a month.

Degrees
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field.
Required Functional Experience
Typically requires 7 years of experience in payroll operations.
Required Management Experience
Includes 3 years of management experience in directing and administering payroll processes and procedures, overseeing compliance and regulatory requirements, and developing strategies which increase consistency and efficiency within a large complex organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced knowledge of payroll accounting, payroll processing, payroll tax processing procedures and government reports. Demonstrated experience in leading operational quality and process improvement initiatives based on best practices to achieve organizational initiatives. Demonstrated ability to design, administer, and evaluate programs and practices to maximize department and organizational efficiency. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office or similar products. Advanced knowledge of integrated human resources/payroll and materials management systems. Demonstrated ability to develop strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large complex organization. Proven ability to develop sound proposals and successfully implement program/project plans. Demonstrated ability to work and function in a complex corporate system environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. Demonstrated extensive understanding of local, state, and federal payroll tax along with other payroll related regulations. Excellent analytical, quantitative, and qualitative skills to facilitate effective decision-making. Ability to identify and solve problems creatively. Workday experience a plus.
