Job Posting for Research & Development Scientist/Full-Time/Days at Advocate Aurora
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide input on the technical performance of lab tests to replace, standardize or develop new testing procedures and methodologies within the Laboratory section.
Validate and implement new methodologies, procedures and instrumentation to ensure that ACL remains on the cutting edge in providing timely, quality care for patients at a cost effective price to Advocate Aurora Health and ACL clients.
Implementation of testing technologies to ensure continued service line success and consistency with Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care philosophy and strategic goals.
Coordinate, identify and resolve technical problems/issues related to laboratory methodology, instrumentation and/or procedural protocols as it relates to designated work
Develops, performs, monitors and evaluates quality control, applies principles of quality assurance when working with clinical samples.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
License/Registration/Certification Required:
Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)
Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Education required: Master’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Molecular, or an equivalent science field.
Experience required: Typically requires 5 years of experience in a clinical research setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Expertise in the methodologies, equipment and analysis tools used within the laboratory specialty
Ability to multi-task, meet established project timelines and work well under stress
Excellent technical troubleshooting skills
Ability to effectively and appropriately communicate in all situations.
Ability to effectively instruct teammates on new procedures and technologies.
Familiarity with CAP/CLIA clinical validation standards
Ability to analyze validation data, draft validation summary and write/revise laboratory policies
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires working in a fast paced environment with established time constraints and ability to recognize assignments that may be delegated.
Ability to maintain professional composure at all times.
Ability to articulate knowledge of topics under discussion.
Ability to balance research findings with ACL technical limitations.
Position may require bench work that involves standing for several hours.
