Major Responsibilities:
- Delivers individualized coursework incorporating academic and behavioral strengths and deficits.
- Reviews student data to identify academic and behavioral strengths and deficits.
- Evaluates students academically and behaviorally by preparing progress notes/reports per the annual schedule.
- Participates in intervention or treatment teams by identifying behavioral and emotional issues that interfere with student learning, recommending strategies to ameliorate behaviors, and modifying academic and/or behavioral plans.
- Manages behavior in classroom using de-escalation techniques, following proper risk management procedures and seeks assistance when needed.
- Contacts parents of students as needed, fostering positive relations with parents or guardians.
- Promotes the credibility, visibility and services of Kradwell or Ark/Odyssey School.
- Keeps team and principal informed of issues and events that affect the students, staff and school.
- Provides for the safety, security and confidential treatment of patients, guests and staff.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Teacher License issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), or
- Teacher, Substitute Permit issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
Education Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
Experience Required:
- No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated through establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents, other teachers, administrators and students.
- Classroom management abilities.
- Ability to work with a challenging student population exhibiting emotionally disturbed, learning disabled and behaviorally disabled issues.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders and twist.
- May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance or lift over 25 lbs. with assistance
- May be exposed to the following hazards: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
