- Performs routine therapeutic procedures appropriate for specialty area and within scope of practice as determined by education and/or experience.
- Consults with physician as appropriate.
- Elicits a personal medical history and assesses and determines differential diagnosis. Prescribes accordingly.
- Instructs and counsels patients on physical/mental health including, but not limited to, diet, preventive health measures, disease, treatment, and normal growth and development.
- As part of the health care team, performs evaluation and treatment procedures necessary to provide an appropriate response to life-threatening emergency situations. Assists in providing emergency medical interventions until a physician arrives.
- Signs medical and nursing plan and maintain records according to established standards and guidelines.
- Maintains appropriate processes related to operations, including reporting, cash processes, and use of technology.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
- Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
- Nurse Practitioner (AANP) certification issued by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or
- Nurse Practitioner (ANCC) certification issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
- Master's Degree in Nursing.
Experience Required:
- No experience required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a health care team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist continuously throughout the workday.
- Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
- Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, protective clothing (i.e., goggles, lead apron, gloves, gowns, etc.) must be worn as necessary.
- Exposed to a normal office environment.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
