Major Responsibilities:
- Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, making use of any necessary immobilization techniques.
- 1)Position, transfer and immobilize patients for procedures, ensuring optimal quality exams are obtained.
- 2)Operate portable ultrasound equipment as required, to perform portable procedures throughout the hospital
- 3)Assist physicians with various recommendations for obtaining optimal studies, by suggesting selections for technical factors for procedures.
- Documentation of Department records (e.g., inventory of supplies, patient statistics) to ensure adequate supplies and proper patient records
- 1)Maintain correct patient records. Assemble daily patient schedules and prepare patient folders, to enable the Department to properly preserve patient records.
- 2)Prepare Ultrasound rooms, ensuring that necessary equipment and supplies are available, before performing procedures
- 3)Know and operate hospital computer systems as required.
- Responsible for securing pertinent medical history from the patient, for each procedure, in order to provide the radiologist with adequate information, before film interpretation
- 1)Obtain pertinent medical history to ensure that the radiologist will have required information, explaining why the diagnostic test is being done.
- 2)Work closely with the radiologist when requested, to ensure an optimal outcome for each procedure.
- 3)Maintain positive attitude when dealing with a patient, fellow employee or any personnel encountered during daily activities.
- Complies with established hospital safety standards, to ensure patient and staff safety at all times.
- 1)Maintain annual CPR certification to further ensure safety of patients in the Department
- 2)Operate all equipment in a safe manner, according to Hospital and Department policies and procedures on safety
- 3)Uses Universal Precautions, protecting self and others from bodily fluid exposure
- Keep abreast of current skills and developments in the field of ultrasound
- Instruct and help students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound
Education/Experience Required:
- -Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and eligible for ARDMS registry that provides minimum of 1 year of clinical scanning.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Possess high degree of technical knowledge to perform specialized ultrasound studies with little assistance from radiologists
- -ARDMS Registered or ARDMS registry eligible if within 24 months of graduation from an approved sonography programscanning. -CPR certification
Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to adjust to flexible hours at minimal notice Ability to work odd hours (late hours on-call) Ability to respond to emergency call back in minimal time *Ability to stand for long periods of time *Ability to constantly view video display screen during exam *Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients This position can recognize needs and behaviors of all age groups. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
