Major Responsibilities:
- Displays competent understanding of patient positioning and image critique
- 1)Ability to competently position patients for all exams
- 2)Perform problem solving as it relates to physical limitations of patients during patient positioning
- 3)Competent to perform image reviews to determine if more views are necessary to complete the exam
- 4)Able to select and adjust technical factors governing the imaging process
- 5)Ability to identify artifacts on image and assist in problem solving
- 6)Has minimal repeat work
- 7)Ability to pass annual competencies on the following exam types: Small parts, female pelvis, abdominal, and ob
- 8)Able to efficiently communicate normal and abnormal anatomy that is captured on the scans for the radiologists, including filling out worksheets
- 9)Accurately measures and labels anatomical structures as needed
- Displays competent understanding and operation of equipment
- 1)Ability to operate all equipment in a competent manner
- 2)Ability to modify technical factors as situation warrants
- 3)Able to perform start-up and shut down procedures on all equipment
- 4)Ensures that all images are labeled and marked correctly
- 5)Inspects equipment on a daily basis during use
- 6)Reports any malfunctions to leader. If leader is unavailable, contact proper company for repairs
- 7)Performs problem solving as situation warrants; i.e, equipment malfunction, and physical limitations of equipment
- 8)Handles all equipment with care
- Delivery of patient care
- 1)Responsible for the welfare and care of all patients directly under their control; i.e., implementation of immobilization devices as necessary for patient safety and comfort
- 2)Secures history from patients and records on appropriate form for radiologist
- 3)Performs Time Out before starting any procedures
- 4)Follow the process for clean procedures
- 5)Follows the process for using high level disinfectants
- Responsible for ensuring PACS, EMR and other software has the appropriate and complete studies
- 1)Demonstrates the ability to arrive, begin, and end studies in EMR
- 2)Demonstrates the ability to utilize Modality Work list/or select patient in Modality, acquire and send images from the modality in PACS
- 3)Demonstrates the ability to log into PACS and retrieve the appropriate study
- 4)Carries out the QC process for the images in PACS
- 5)Selects the correct buttons for prior exams and availability
- 6)Determines if pertinent priors are available in PACS
- 7)Ensures the image link is available and working in EMR
- 8)Notifies the PACS Administrator or assistant of any issues that they are not able to resolve
- 9)General troubleshooting- ie splitting and merging studies, changing accession numbers
- 10)Competent to perform functions in PenRad
- 11) Scans documents appropriately
- 12) Know how to properly use the iPad for interpreting
- Participates in professional development
- 1)Attends and participates in departmental meetings
- 2)Maintains required amount of CME credits for ARDMS
- 3)Maintains current ARDMS certification
- 4)Participates in problem solving that would improve quality for the department
- 5)Maintains CPR certification
- 6)Provides direction and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance
- 7)Contributes to the performance goals of the department
- 8)Complete required classes in ATMS
- Other duties
- 1)Stocks rooms as needed
- 2)Assist other as needed
- 3)Participate in patient education
- 4)Participate in ACR requirements
- 5)Acting flexibly to rotate through workstations and shifts to provide coverage as warranted
- 6)Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience Required:
- Graduate from an accredited ultrasound tech program. *Prefer one year of experience in ultrasound.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Competent degree of technical knowledge to perform specialized U/S studies with some amount of assistance from the Radiologist *Able to make some diagnostic judgments when scanning and present them to radiologist for their interpretation *Good communication skills *Good organizational skills *Some computer knowledge
- ARDMS Registry and CPR Certification within 3 months
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work flexible hours -Ability to stand for long periods of time -Ability to constantly view small monitors during exams -Willingness to work overtime when needed -Work under frequent stress in sensitive clinical settings -Responds positively to requests to work on short notice -Flexible in start and end times -Flexible in a changing environment -Travel for work assignments if necessary -May be exposed to infectious diseases and hazardous materials
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
