Job Description
AECOM has a position available for a Microgrid Solution Architect to join our growing Energy Business Line supporting clean energy initiatives pursuing projects in the municipal, defense, commercial, industrial and higher education market segments. AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.
The responsibilities for the position include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Evaluates the feasibility of installing microgrid systems at new or existing client facilities considering the physical and electrical infrastructure constraints present at each site.
- Produces conceptual designs that can incorporate a variety of energy resources, including renewables, thermal generation and battery storage, in order to meet financial, resilience and/or environmental goals for each project.
- Develops financial models of microgrid revenue generation to optimize sizing of generation and energy storage capacity.
- Performs power system studies to validate equipment ratings and verify reliable operation of the microgrid during grid-tied and islanded system operation.
- Originate and support the development of document designs/drawings, sequence of operations, equipment specifications, system approval test procedures, and other system-related information for feasibility through detailed design project scopes.
- Work closely with Distributed Energy Resources Lead in business development pursuits
- Actively participate in development and delivery of training of additional resources in his/her area of expertise,
- Occasional travel to project/client sites
DCS-Energy

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university
- 4 years of relevant experience in power generation / industry engineering and design
Preferred Qualifications:
- PE licensure
- 6 years of relevant in power generation / industry engineering and design experience preferred
- Masters degree or PhD in Electrical or Electronics engineering
- 3 years of microgrid control system development, or the application of energy storage, solar, fuel cell, and generator controllers, including applicable research and development experience
- Experience in the specification and integration of battery energy storage systems
- Familiarity with DER interconnect standards and communication protocols
- Advanced knowledge of control methods, energy management systems, load controllers and switchgear.
- Experience with power system modeling and analysis tools, including SKM/ETAP, Homer, or similar software packages
- Startup and Commissioning Field Experience
- Success in working with remote teams
