Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Planning Intern for our Providence, Rhode Island office. We're looking for individuals with transportation planning or community engagement backgrounds looking to develop public engagement and data gathering skills. We have openings for interns to support our work with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation at MBTA Commuter Rail Stations in Rhode Island. Interns will be part of a field-work team that will count passengers, with the possibility of additional assignments, pending intern interest in railroad or public transit-related subjects.

This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Documenting and observing customer behavior and patterns as they use a specific ticket vending machine (TVM).

  • Engaging with members of the public by asking them to fill out a TVM Survey.

  • Supporting the survey design team with feedback on design effectiveness.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing Bachelor's Degree or higher in Communications, Public Transportation, Planning, or a related field with the intent to continue after the internship, unless graduating.

  • Candidates must have completed one year of study in their program.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to regularly visit to project sites.

  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Access to a personal vehicle or means of transportation to/from New Haven Union Station during the early hours of the morning and late evening hours.

  • Experience conducting public outreach, especially in an in-person setting.

  • Knowledge of passenger rail service in Connecticut.

  • Ability to be on-site at various times during the morning (as early as 5:30 AM), midday, and evening (as late as 11:00 PM) periods of the day.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

  • Travel is required for this position.

  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

  • Offered rate of compensation (Rhode Island locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The hourly range for this position is $16.52- $22.71/hr .
