Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Principal Engineer for our utility clients.
As a member of our Program team, the Principal Engineer reviews technical submittals, provides direction to less experienced staff and leads engineering teams, provides technical deliverables, contributes to development of the program technical procedures and performs other related engineering and design activities.
The ideal candidate:
Possesses working knowledge of power grid, transmission and distribution industry (T&D) and electric utilities in California and has strong working knowledge of design, construction and permitting of new underground and overhead power distribution lines.
Expected to be a self-starter and result oriented individual with strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, collaboration and leadership skills and ability to communicate and coordinate project goals to the rest of technical staff and other team members.
Experienced in checking completed job packages for adequacy of design and documentation.
Experienced in working with a diverse team of professionals including, but not limited to: project managers, construction managers, project controls professionals, estimating, public outreach, procurement professionals, environmental professionals, consultants, owners' engineers, safety professionals, risk management etc.
Has ability to effectively communicate expectations and requirements with both clients and team members.
Able to assist with new recruitment, mentoring and training of other staff and team members.
Can perform other department and/or program duties as required.
DCS—Energy
AECOM’s Energy practice provides a wide range of services from consulting and engineering design to energy engineering, energy procurement and construction (EPC) for power, energy efficiency, and renewable energy clients. Our understanding of the big picture – and the interconnection between generation, distribution, storage, and the demand side of the meter – allows us to deliver holistic strategies that improve and modernize next generation energy infrastructure. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BS in Civil or Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
8 Years of Relevant Experience, including design and oversight of underground and overhead of distribution or transmission lines
Experience with GO128, GO95 and/or NESC
Preferred Qualifications:
10 Years of Relevant Experience
Experience with design of new and upgrade of existing distribution line, transmission lines and substations, voltage levels from 12kV to 500kV.
Knowledge of Power distribution equipment and construction means and methods
Proficient with survey, base mapping, geographic information systems (GIS) and LiDAR
Be located in California or willing to relocate
Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Master’s degree in technical discipline
Demonstrated experience delivering work in fast paced projects and/or programs with high quality on schedule and within scope and budget.

Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $122,820.39 - $185,019.06 annually exempt.
