Jr. Engineering Technician

The Jr. Engineering Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment, performing tests, inspections, and diagnostics to ensure completed payload project assemblies meet design specifications and are within quality limits and standards. Projects will be payloads assigned via the REMIS KSC Multi-Use Hardware task order and will consist of biological experiments using BRIC, Veg in Veggie, APEX in Veggie, APEX in Spectrum, and/or KFT usage. All experiments are internal ISS micro-gravity biological experiments. The PIE facilitates flight hardware build and certification and performs payload integration for the flight of the payloads.

Responsibilities
- Performs the set-up and testing of products, subassemblies, mechanical/biological assemblies.
- Recognizes failures and set-up problems and determines the need for appropriate corrective action.
- Operates test software on standard computer systems.
- Reads test schedule, work orders, test manuals, performance specifications, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine testing procedure and equipment to be used.
- Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions.
- Connects unit to be tested to test equipment such as signal generator, frequency meter, or spectrum analyzer.
- Reads dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics such as voltage, frequency, distortion, inductance, and capacitance.
- Analyzes test results on defective units to determine cause of failure.
- Confers with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems.
- Maintains department specific records.
- Responsible for general housekeeping of assigned work area.
- Works under close supervision of the assigned Payload integration Engineer.
- Is consistently at work and on time. Must adhere to company specified work schedule.
- Maintaining BRIC, Veg in Veggie, APEX in Veggie, APEX in Spectrum, and/or KFT hardware.
- Executing certification testing of payload hardware, including Experiment Verification Tests (EVT) and Science Verification Tests (SVT).
- Executing assembly procedures for testing and final flight integration of payload hardware. • Assisting with development of interface and flight documentation, as necessary.
- Testing and integration of payloads into the vehicle, including final flight preparation of payloads in an off-line lab, support of installation to the launch vehicle, and support of interface verification testing.

Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Must have US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status.
- Basic Computer Skills: 1 year (Required)
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 -2 years of technical experience and/or training and Associate’s Degree or higher preferred
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
