The Technical Writer gathers the necessary information, develops, and publishes procedures, product user manuals, technical bulletins, release notes and quick start guides for all AEM products (as required) in accordance with the ISO procedures. This also includes maintenance and updating documentation for in-life products and supporting localization of documentation as required.

The documentation will be internal and/or external facing, developed using AEM brand guidelines and prepared for end users, distributors, partners and AEM team members.


This position will help manage the flow of information among project work groups and departments during development and testing. This requires understanding of complex information and the ability to communicate information to people with diverse professional backgrounds.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Work within AEM Document Control process and manage documentation through their lifecycle from creation, revision, publication, and obsolescence.
  • Follow revision and change control process.
  • Support departments in the development of procedures and work instructions.
  • Work with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, and Service to determine the documentation needs for all products (hardware and software) and services provided by AEM and select appropriate medium for message or audience.
  • Documentation Development
    • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to gather input for creating documentation and organizing materials.
    • Revise documents as new issues arise.
    • Standardize content across platforms and media, following AEM brand guidelines.
    • Apply established guidelines for writing procedures, including the use a of AEM SOP templates.
    • Gather usability feedback from AEM team members.
    • Gather feedback from AEM team members / stakeholders for procedures.
    • Gather, record and track approvals and publish.
    • Track documentation from creation to implementation, including sending reminders for documents requiring review.
    • Coordinate with team members to ensure production representative product samples are completed for document photography.
    • Coordinate with team members to ensure any in-situ/location-based product shots are completed for documentation.
    • Utilize photography, drawings, and diagrams as appropriate to communicate proper usage, troubleshooting, service and support in documentation.
    • Support bid spec/tender responses as required.
    • All documentation is to be developed in English. Support document localization as required by providing content to the translation house and guidance as required.
    • Follows all policies and procedures as applicable to position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, Public Relations, Communications or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • At least two years recent, related experience working in a technical writing position, ideally in the high-tech sector.
  • Preferred knowledge in engineering, product management, or environmental monitoring technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office
  • Familiarity with Adobe tools
  • Experience using Jira software tools.
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to travel internationally as needed.

Additional Information:

· This is a hybrid opportunity that will be performed on-site and remotely. It can be done from any location near Victoria, B.C. Canada or Longmont, Colorado.

· Must be eligible to work in the U.S. or Canada without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization. F-1 visa holders with Optional Practical Training (OPT) who will require H-1B status, TNs, or current H-1B visa holders will not be considered. H1-B and green card sponsorship is not available for this position.

US Compensation Range: A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $60,000 - $75,000 USD per year. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. AEM considers a wide range of factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education, licensure and certifications, key skills as well as other market and business considerations when extending an offer. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
