General Counsel

Position Description:
As Aeropay's General Counsel, you will be pivotal in ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and providing strategic legal counsel to the executive team. You will oversee all legal matters related to Aeropay’s payments technology, including regulatory compliance, contract negotiations, intellectual property protection, and legal strategy development.
Responsibilities:
1. Legal Compliance: Stay updated with regulatory developments in the fintech and payments industry, ensuring our operations comply with relevant laws and regulations at local, national, and international levels.
2. Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations and drafting of contracts with partners, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders, ensuring favorable terms and protecting the company's interests.
3. Intellectual Property Protection: Manage intellectual property portfolios, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and implement strategies to protect our innovations and technologies.
4. Risk Management: Identify legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, working closely with internal teams to implement risk management protocols and procedures.
5. Litigation Management: Oversee any legal disputes or litigation matters, collaborating with external legal counsel as needed to represent the company's interests effectively.
6. Corporate Governance: Advise on corporate governance matters, including board meetings, compliance with corporate laws, and shareholder relations.
7. Compliance Training: Develop and deliver training programs to ensure that employees understand legal requirements and compliance standards related to payments technology.
8. Policy Development: Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, risk management, and ethical business practices.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar association.
2. Minimum of 7 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on fintech, payments, or related industries.
3. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing payments technology, including but not limited to PCI-DSS, PSD2, GDPR, and AML/KYC regulations.
4. Proven experience in contract negotiation, intellectual property management, and risk assessment within a fast-paced startup or technology company.
5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
7. Experience in managing external legal counsel and other legal service providers.
