POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer (PE) is responsible for all technical and engineering aspects on assigned projects. The successful PE leads a multi-disciplined engineering team and works closely with Program Managers, functional groups, other departments, customers, and subcontractors/vendors, as necessary, to facilitate project completion, while meeting customer requirements. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Builds and supports a high-performance team centered around defined engineering practices with clear goals and responsibilities. 
  • Participates in new business development/proposals by contributing technical expertise to proposal development, particularly in the preparation of successful proposal designs, cost estimates, and technical write-ups. On occasion, may be assigned as a proposal lead.
  • Responsible for coordinating and directing engineering activities on small- and large-scale training device programs in a diverse, matrixed organization from requirements to final acceptance. 
  • Reviews and provides decisions on technical specifications, designs, test plans, milestones, and goals.
  • Ensures project goals are achieved on-time, safely, and in compliance of established requirements.
  • Participates as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews. 
  • Responsible for overall program technical design, hardware/software integration, and hardware/software release processes. 
  • Identifies technical project problems and recommends solutions, such as reallocating resources or changing contractual specifications. 
  • Communicates schedule conflicts, resource constraints, and time constraints to the project team and other stakeholders.
  • Implements corrective measures for all Hardware/Software Integration issues.
  • Provides engineering support during the manufacturing phase of a program or when problems arise to ensure timely project completion. 
  • Ensures final product matches shipboard systems/subsystems, meets contractual requirements, and all functional areas are technically compliant for each assigned project.
  • Serves as program’s primary technical representative during in-plant and on-site customer acceptance with some extended periods of travel required.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned projects and/or tasks. 
  • Attend relevant third-party stakeholder meetings and events as needed.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ engineering experience that includes at least 5 years’ experience developing complex hardware/software systems (Required)
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ direct experience as a Project Engineer in the maritime simulator industry (Preferred)
  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams (Required)
  • Experience working with customers and product managers to identify needs and translate into technical requirements, with a focus on government customers (Required).
  • Strong background in software development (Preferred).
  • Experience with simulator design, development, integration, and testing (Preferred).
  • Experience in flight simulation industry standards and regulatory requirements (Preferred).


ADDITIONAL REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to effectively lead teams in a matrix environment, where programs must share functional resources.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt communication style and messaging to different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed appropriately.
  • Ability to work in a project-oriented, fast paced environment to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of formal software development practices including the use of software configuration management, coding standards, and style guides.
  • Proficiency in common business software (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Visio, SharePoint).


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering (or closely related technical discipline).



EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Due to contractual requirements must be a United States Citizen
  • Must be able to pass an initial background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense security clearance. Employee/selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information (as required)
  • Travel (CONUS and/or OCONUS) is limited but may be required to support customer requirements (<10%).
  • ASI is a Drug Free Workplace where applicants and employees are required to successfully pass pre-employment and Random drug testing.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
  • Must be able to perform normal office duties (sitting for long periods at a desk or while attending meetings).
  • Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS via multiple types of transportation to include car and airplane.
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit a simulator. 
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in an office environment consisting of offices and cubicles with low to moderate noise and bright or dim lighting. The work is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as external customers. Hours of work may vary depending on business needs.
