Coordinates the installation of communication lines between user areas and the mainframe to access via terminals, IRMA boards, modems, printers or networks. Responsible for the configuration of controllers when new equipment is installed or when problems arise. Maintains the mainframe hardware list and placement or movement of printers and terminals located in user areas and generates reports as needed. Assists in solving user mainframe access problems and if necessary in the yearly build, installation and upgrading of PC equipment. Participates in ordering and purchasing PC equipment based on configurations requested and assists in evaluation of new equipment. Performs other duties which may be requested by authorized personnel. QUALIFICATIONS: A high school graduate or equivalent with a two (2) year associate degree from a generally recognized college or university in engineering, computer science, computer technology or other technically related field, or more than seven (7) years of experience in a technically related position. Must be familiar with PC configurations, hardware and COM ports and know the characteristics of mainframe terminals and mainframe controller capabilities. Must have a good understanding of communication between mainframes and terminals and knowledge of protocols such as parity, baud rates and stop bits. Must have a working knowledge of Roscoe, SAS and software such as DOS and Lotus. Must have good communication skills and be able to deal courteously and effectively with other areas of the Company and outside vendors. Other general qualifications such as attendance and punctuality, safety and performance records will be considered. Additional consideration will be given for the following job related training or experience: (1) Knowledge of Company organization and physical location of departments; (2) Knowledge of MVS, CMS and UNIX operating systems; and (3) Any other qualifications contributing to the applicant's ability to perform the job. Working Conditions: Generally indoor work in clean, well lighted, heated and ventilated surroundings.
