The Network Technician will construct, repair, remove and maintain the Company’s and/or the customer’s electric system in substations, power stations, AC network and underground facilities. There are three levels in this job series. Level 1 – Under close supervision, assists Levels II, II and Senior Network Technicians. Works where the task is confined to de-energized equipment or energized not over 250 volts. Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to obtain Class A CDL; Must be able to work in enclosed spaces (manholes/vaults); Assist other Network Technicians with necessary tools, equipment and materials; Assist in installing all types of power cable; build cable terminals; and locate faults; Take proper care of tools, tackle, jacks and rigging apparatuses; Operate torches and other heating apparatus; handle solder, tinning, insulating and taping conductors, including buses (de-energized); Perform bending, cutting and threading conduits and buses, by hand or by power machine; Perform re-lamping, repairing and maintaining lighting, repairing extension cords, portable tools and lighting equipment; Use tools of the trade, prepare electrical bus, perform drilling, filing, sawing, plating, etc. Install all types of control and power cables; assists qualified network technicians in the preparation of cable splices and terminations; assists qualified network technicians in the preparation of splices and connections with conductor to switches, lighting and power equipment; Clean structures, buses, insulators, tubing, equipment and the place of work; Operates motor vehicles and all equipment associated with construction and maintenance as qualified; Climb and work on structures. Use ladders proficiently and safely. Fill out standard forms, prepare reports and sketches. Assist qualified Network Technician or Substation Technicians in conducting substation inspections and in keeping inspection notes and conditions. May use personal computer or similar device to report work tasks and conditions. Assist in performing infrared inspections of equipment. Position requires ability to work outdoors in adverse weather/environmental conditions, in storms and after hours work as required Requires moderate to heavy physical exertion Must take care of company equipment and take proper precautions and care while performing work on customer’s premises Work regularly exposes employees to hazardous conditions Must be able to work well with others Must be able to fill out required paperwork on jobsites Physical Qualifications Candidate must successfully complete the physical abilities test as well as the AC Network Job Sampling Assessment. Ability to work outdoors with physical exertion. The employee is occasionally required to perform work in adverse weather conditions. Activities include frequent hand-eye coordination skills to operate electronic test equipment, personal computers and power/hand tools. The position also requires communication by two-way radio and telephone. The employee must be able to identify and possess the requisite skills necessary to use all the basic tools (list of several tools to be included) as provided by the company. The position requires the employee to possess and demonstrate the following physical and mental/psychological abilities. Strength & Agility Exert force of 50-100 pounds occasionally or 25-50 pounds frequently in order to push, pull or move objects. Lift or carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 10-20 pounds constantly. Removing/installing manhole and service box lids. Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, push/pull, twist at the waist, reach below or at the shoulder level and occasionally above the shoulder level. Occasionally sit, crouch, kneel and climb stairs, ladders or other apparatus and work on uneven terrain. Frequently climb ladders (manhole and vault) to work in enclosed spaces and occasionally work on equipment out of a bucket truck or scaffolding at heights of up to 60 feet for an extended period of time. Be able to work around noisy equipment, dirty conditions, and frequently work in trenches or enclosed spaces. Successful completion of the AC Network Job Sampling Assessment. Vision Possess visual acuity which could be corrected sufficiently to perform essential functions of the position; average depth perception and the ability to verify proper color convention, often involving small components and wiring. The candidate must be able to recognize the following colors: brown, white, red, green, black, blue and orange. Hearing Possess hearing ability to effectively hear and comprehend oral instructions and communication. This position requires cyber or physical access to designated secured areas.
