We have an exciting opportunity for an Orbital Debris Engineer to join the team with our Science & Exploration Division.
The selected applicant will:
• Develop, document, integrate, maintain, and operate computer models such as the Object Reentry Survival Analysis Tool (ORSAT).
• Evaluate the survivability of spacecraft and rocket body components during atmospheric reentry using ORSAT and other computer models.
• Participate in experiments to improve models of the space debris environment and atmospheric reentry.
• Evaluate spacecraft and rocket body Orbital Debris Assessment Reports (ODARs) and end-of-mission plans (EOMPs).
• Work closely with JETS Orbital Debris Research & Science Operations (ODRSO) colleagues and NASA Orbital Debris Program Office (ODPO) customers.
• Present work products to customers and counterparts (written & verbal).
• Support and participate in technical interchange meetings.
• Perform other duties as required.
Requisition Qualifications:
Skills and experience should demonstrate:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Experience with structural and thermal modeling.
• Experience with high-level programming and analysis languages, such as Fortran, MATLAB, and/or Python.
• Must meet eligibility requirements to receive and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees.
Requisition Preferences:
• Bachelors, master’s, or PhD degree in mechanical, aerospace, or other closely related engineering field from an accredited school with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related area.
• Experience with spacecraft and/or rocket launch hardware design and implementation.
• Experience analyzing orbital debris measurement data.
• Proficiency with high-level programming and analysis languages, such as Fortran, MATLAB, and/or Python.
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS.
• Experience with material science.
• Experience with laboratory testing.
• Experience with high-speed aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics.
• Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstration of strong communication skills.
• Demonstration of creativity, conception, vision, and personal initiative.
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Preferred: Bachelors, master’s, or PhD degree in mechanical, aerospace, or other closely related engineering field from an accredited school with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a related area.

Work hours:
Here at Aeyon we believe in creating an environment that fosters a healthy work/ life balance. The typical day consists of a 9-5 Monday-Friday work schedule totaling 40 hours per week, but we do realize that life happens, and things come up. Many of our positions allow some flexibility in the work schedule for unforeseen events so that our employees can maintain a 40-hour work week and still have the opportunity to meet other obligations during the workday.
