Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director to oversee a multi-county Head Start Program. The Director will provide vision and leadership to Head Start staff while ensuring management functions are properly carried out within the program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for childhood development and creating a nurturing learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities
· Stays up to date on all aspects of the Head Start Performance Standards and related regulations and how to implement them.
· In collaboration with senior leadership, develops and maintains specific program policies and procedures to meet federal, state, and local regulations.
· Plans and communicates with the team to develop a system to effectively monitor ERSEA, Education, Health, and Family Services implementation to ensure optimal child and family outcomes.
· Aligns program goals with the organization's strategic plan.
· Fosters and maintains a mutually beneficial relationship with Board of Education collaborative partnerships.
· Actively participates in the shared governance processes including the Policy Council, Oversight Committee, and Appalachian Council Board of Directors with attendance at all meetings or sends designee if attendance is not possible.
· Demonstrates a deep understanding of personnel policies and procedures and ensures the team is aware of these and any changes to them that occur.
· Reviews and analyzes monthly financial reports from the fiscal department to assess opportunities and risks.
· Provides guidance in the areas of staffing patterns, job descriptions, performance standards, and job priorities.
· Sets goals, monitors, provides feedback, and evaluates management team staff annually according to position description, performance standards, and agency policy.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience
· Minimum of five years of experience required in personnel management and budget administration.
· A background in Head Start or preschool management is preferred.
Education & Abilities
· Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Public Administration, Human Resources, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or other related field.
· Mission driven and effective at working in a team-oriented environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
· Ability to communicate ideas and instructions orally and in writing.
· Ability to collaborate with others, including internal program leaders and staff, as well as external partners and consumers, using a problem-solving approach.
Physical Demands
The usual requirements in an office/classroom environment may require lifting boxes of supplies and equipment and occasional adjustments of office furniture.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel will be required for site visits as well as occasional travel for meetings and conferences. Candidate must have own transportation and a valid driver’s license.
