POSITION: Ag Teacher/ FFA Advisor

As an Agricultural Teacher, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping students' understanding of agriculture and its various components.

Harrisburg operates on a 4-day school week M-TH. Work days and hours are flexible for this position, so the work times and days can be personalized.

COMPENSATION: Placement on the salary schedule will be competitive and commensurate with education,

experience, and work schedule. District policy GCBA will be implemented.

BENEFITS: Prorated employer-paid insurance CAP to assist with health, dental, and vision premiums, employer-paid Basic Life, and AD&D policies. Paid personal days, sick leave, and paid holidays, with a generous PERS retirement contribution.

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Oregon Teacher's License with appropriate endorsement level required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Agricultural teaching experience. Desire to work in a rural community setting. Advisor experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Teaching: You'll design and deliver engaging lessons for courses such as Introduction to Agriculture, Plant Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Leadership/Ag Business, and Natural Resources & Forestry. These courses will cover a range of topics including basic agricultural principles, crop cultivation, animal husbandry, machinery operation and maintenance, leadership skills, and environmental conservation. With the ability to use a variety of facilities including a Welding Shop, a Wood Shop, a 60X60 Greenhouse (and a 20X40 one soon to be constructed), a 60X40 fenced Garden, an Ag Classroom and a designated Ag Lab space.
  • Curriculum Development: You'll develop curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessments that align with state standards and educational objectives. This involves researching current trends and best practices in agricultural education to ensure content relevance and effectiveness.
  • Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning is essential. You'll implement effective classroom management strategies to foster student engagement, participation, and respect for one another.
  • Hands-on Learning: Given the practical nature of agricultural education, you'll organize and supervise hands-on activities, laboratory experiments, and field trips to provide students with real-world experiences and reinforce theoretical concepts.
  • Individualized Instruction: Recognizing the diverse learning styles and abilities of students, you'll provide individualized support and enrichment opportunities to ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed.
  • Advising: As the instructor for agricultural leadership courses, you'll serve as an advisor for student organizations such as Future Farmers of America (FFA). This involves guiding students in leadership development, coordinating FFA activities, and facilitating student participation in competitions, conferences, and community service projects. (Includes a stipend)
  • Collaboration: You'll collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders to integrate agricultural education across disciplines and promote interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Professional Development: Continuing education and professional growth are essential aspects of your role. You'll participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to stay updated on advancements in agricultural education and teaching methodologies.
  • Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with the local agricultural community, industry professionals, and stakeholders. This may involve organizing guest speakers, industry visits, and partnerships to enhance students' exposure to career opportunities in agriculture.
  • Administrative Duties: Completing administrative tasks such as grading, attendance records, and reporting student progress to parents and administrators is a fundamental aspect of your role.
