General Description
The Farm Operations Coordinator will assist in the implementation of the Urban Farm Initiative in partnership with members of other SAFB departments such as Development and Operations. This position will provide leadership with cultivation, harvest, and crop processing.
Essential Functions:
- Work under the supervision of the Director of Food Sustainability and accomplish tasks and assignments.
- Perform overall farm and garden work to include weeding, irrigation, fruit tree maintenance, walking path maintenance, planting, harvesting, remove dead and diseased foliage.
- Operate heavy farm equipment such as tractors, trucks, walk-behind tractors, etc.
- Water, reset drip tape, monitor water catchment tanks, and inspect nurse lines.
- Provide insight, creative contributions, and discussion regarding farm and garden plans.
- Support planning activities for seasonal cultivation strategies.
- Ability to work with a variety of community members and volunteers. Engage volunteers in needed activities and delegate assignments.
- Greet and orientate volunteers as well as share the mission of the San Antonio Food Bank.
- Ensure equipment is well maintained.
- Maintain records and weekly reports.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Farm operations experience of at least four years.
- Schedule flexibility, to be coordinated between coordinator and director, to include occasional weekends.
- Accept and amplify the SAFB mission.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and agency personnel.
- Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
- Good judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work outside for extended periods of time.
- Has a current Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.
