Position Title Farm Superintendent/ Foreman
Job Summary Farm superintendent/foreman needed for a university farming operation that uses state-of-the-art technology to support the production of cattle, poultry, small ruminants and crops (field and greenhouse - conventional and organic). Candidates should enjoy farming and be self-motivated. Expect daily challenges and something new regularly. Candidates should enjoy farming and be self-motivated, have experience in irrigated and dryland farming practices, have precision farming knowledge and have people management skills. Essential Job Duties - Supervise and coordinate activities of GWCAES staff to include, but not limited to the follows: Irrigation/Chemigation
Pesticide Application
Field Tractor Work (Tillage, Mowing, etc.)
Greenhouse Operations
Field Scouting
General Maintenance of Facilities
Fencing
Field Labor
- For crops - Stringing, Training, Planting, Weeding, Feeding, etc.
- For animals - illness, animal Injury, pregnancy checking, Disease Control and other animal health activities as well as the cutting and bailing of hay and maintenance and care of the animal facilities, fences, pastures and paddocks
- Promote safety and professionalism at all times
- Provide leadership to support the successful implementation of CAENS activities held on or in association with the GWCAES, including but not limited to on-farm demonstrations, training workshops, student experiential learning, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by the Research Director and/or Assistant/Associate Research Director
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training) - Associates or Bachelors degree in the field related to agriculture or related field
- Experience in a leadership role a plus
- Experience with operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment a plus
Preferred Qualifications Class A or CDL is preferred.
Physical DemandsSkills and Attributes - Must have good organization and communication skills
- Must have experience managing a successful farm (ideally livestock, poultry and/or crops)
- Knowledgeable in animal reproduction and nutrition
- Able to manage and motivate employees through positive leadership
- Able to communicate successfully with a broad spectrum of individuals to maximize safety, quality and production
- Basic computer fluency (Word, Excel, etc.
- Experience in a leadership role a plus
- Experience with operation and maintenance of agricultural equipment a plus
- Supervise crews performing work in the following functions
- Coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty
- Responsible for safety, quality, and production performance of crew
- Schedule and monitor labor hours
- Schedule job activities
- Report operational performance
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to align farm needs with maintenance sched
- Coordinate with procurement and outside vendors to procure production supplies Implement and utilize TlYs management system
