Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of crop and/or livestock farming experience that involved the use of mechanized equipment; or experience in a correctional or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation or classification of offenders engaged in farming activities.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To manage and supervise all agricultural activities on a correctional facility to produce commodities for consumption and/or sale.

Direct over lower level subordinates.

Plans, directs and coordinates all large-scale farming activities at a correctional facility.
Ensures implementation of all plans, policies, and procedures established by the Prison Enterprises administration.
Determines amount of production; plans land, time, equipment, and personnel use to meet production plans estimates.
Orders feed, seed, fertilizer, chemicals, equipment and supplies needed and purchases livestock.
Oversees the work of the farm through inspections and conferences.
Oversees the maintenance, repair, and operation of various pieces of hazardous farming equipment.
Confers with administrators on major problems or projects and production goals; takes action necessary to see the production goals are timely met.
Maintains compliance with appropriate institutional policies pursuant to ACA/ACI standards.
Conducts monthly safety meetings/inspections and submits safety reports to appropriate staff.
Meets with Wardens, Assistant Wardens, and Institutional Security personnel to resolve problems by influencing or motivating these individuals to work toward Prison Enterprises goals.
