SHOP MECHANIC I
SUMMARY:
The primary function of the Shop Mechanic I position is to diagnose all types of small engine and pump problems. Help rebuild pumps, motors, plumbing tanks, assist in welding and mechanical departments and maintain the shops cleanliness. Assist other mechanics and fabricators by doing maintenance on existing systems and helping to engineer new systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for working with safety in mind, and operating all equipment properly.
- Responsible for wearing appropriate safety gear for the shop in accordance with Company Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Responsible for properly and accurately completing daily equipment Inspections and inspection logs.
- Proficient in usage of basic power and hand tools.
- Troubleshoot and repair of small engines and pumps under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor.
- Engineer new pumping systems for injection and transfer systems.
- Must be able to sand, wire brush, and clean items to be painted and be able to paint.
- Maintain and service assigned equipment including communicating equipment failures and needs to shop supervisor.
- Assist in welding shop
- Assist in mechanical operations
- Purchase supplies and tools for shop and other departments as directed by supervisor
- Drive to field and do field repairs on pumps, motors, plumbing and wiring as needed for customers.
- Responsible for garage cleanliness, maintenance and tool guard adjustments.
- Work with all departments to help maintain cleanliness and order of the yard facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience – Minimum of 1 year in Ag or mechanical experience. Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
Education – High school diploma or general education development (GED) degree
Certifications – Valid California Driver’s license. Must obtain a forklift certificate. Certificate or training in small engine repair from college or technical school
Language Skills – Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and/or written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not necessary.
Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratios, rates, and percent.
Computer Skills –Basic skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
