Under the direction of the clinical provider present, relays clinical information between the patient and clinical provider, who speak two different languages. Creates written translations as necessary in support of interpretation provided, for example, medical instructions schedules.

Interpreter may provide translations such as letters to patients, documents, and patient materials. Will be asked to complete other duties such as front desk reception and patient registration intake. May also assists with on-the-job training and mentoring of interpreter internships. Work with special projects as assigned. Job duties may include weekend and evening hours as scheduled.

Position Requirements:

Fluent in English and Spanish; excellent language and writing skills. Must be able to follow the NCIHC (July 2004) Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to be served. Familiarity and ability to work with diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds. Willingness to promptly learn necessary skills and guidelines, such as medical terminology; computer systems with which they will be working, or industry certifications which our organization may from time to time, request. Able to remain impartial when providing interpretation and translation services and to provide such services without personal judgement. Serves patients, co-workers and the general public, in a manner that is gracious, polite and welcoming.

Skills needed for this function:

Sensitivity to pick up cues from patients or providers regarding need for clarification. Projects positive attitude about the organization and its staff. Naturally positive and service – oriented

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
