We are hiring a Farm Operations Lead that will be based in Truman, Minnesota. This is a hands-on Farm Operations Lead role that will work closely with the owner in all aspects of the farm to ensure the production of high-quality, high-volume, cost-effective crop production. With a focus on efficiency and planning, you will be scheduling day-to-day field operations and maintenance programs for the farm. What you will be doing:
- Operate equipment including a self-propelled sprayer, apply pre-emerge and post-emerge herbicides, Y drop nitrogen, and fungicide
- Manage a small team of up to 5 individuals, delegating tasks, scheduling trucks and logistics
- Load tender trailer and mix proper chemicals, understanding proper rates and loading procedures
- Document all applications, organic records, and maintenance plans
- Operate cultivators for organic crops, tine weeder, rotary hoe, combine, and tractors
- Assist with tile equipment in the off-season
- Operate semi-trucks delivering grain within a 150-mile radius of the home farm
- Manage preventative maintenance of all farm equipment, fabrication repairs, and inspections
- Hands-on leaders in all aspects of the operation
What we’re looking for
- Experience in farming or related field
- Preferred knowledge of row crops, organic crops, agriculture equipment, agronomic practices, plant health, soil health, farm equipment, chemical, and fertilizer use
- Strong mechanical background, preventative maintenance, welding, and fabricating equipment
- Excellent communication, leadership, and time management skills
- Strong decision-making skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn
- Problem-solving and analyzing past and current performance and recommending objectives to improve the productivity and profitability of crops
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the farm
