General Summary:
The Digital Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Transformed Future Projects as described in the Mellon Foundation grant application. The main responsibilities of this person include data gathering and analysis, story collecting, programming, and cartography. Working with community collaborators and contributors, the project aims to collect stories of Decatur's residents and add layers of Decatur history-- Native stories, colonialism stories, white settler/agriculture stories, stories of enslavement, Reconstruction, freedom stories, and modern stories of the challenges of inclusion (economic inclusion, cultural diversity) to a Decatur map.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as coordinator for the Transformed Future Project.
- Create and train a small group of student researchers in basic digital mapping
- Analyzes spatial data through the use of mapping software
- Supports various programs in the Decatur community, including those coordinated with the 200th anniversary of the City of Decatur.
- In collaboration with the college's local partners, coordinates and supports the collection of 200 oral stories of 10 minutes each by Decatur's 200th birthday in 2023
REQUIREMENTS
Education: BS or BA required in related field of study.
Experience: Experience working with diverse groups of community members/groups of all backgrounds and identities. Experience working with archives and gathering in-person information. Experience in digital cartography.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Outstanding quantitative skill set
- Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
- Analytical mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Good interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in MS Office-based applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and electronic databases and calendars.
- Familiarity with an academic environment or town/gown/community relations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to maintain confidentiality
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Itermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office setting.
