What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Legal Reporting & Analytics position at AIG?
The Head of Legal Analytics is responsible for leading activities that transform data into proactive reports, insights and intelligence to drive informed and efficient decision making for senior leaders and attorneys. This person must be able to translate detailed and complex data analytics requirements that originate from a myriad of stakeholders and processes into flexible, scalable, future proofed data analytics technology solutions.
This includes:
- Understanding the firm's legal practices across different geographies and identifying data analytics opportunities
- Developing strong working relationships with key business partners and stakeholders to implement identified data analytics solutions
- Providing creative thinking and real solutions to identify cutting-edge strategies for increasing value, reducing low value work and optimizing outside legal spend while maintaining excellent legal representation
- Integrating internal and external data sources including qualitative and quantitative data
Specific areas of focus:

Developing analytics to drive Right Firm, Right Price, Right Matter mindset across Corporate and Claims
- Firm Performance evaluations
- Pricing strategies
- Creating analytics operating model and roadmap that delivers accurate data and reports on a calendar schedule while managing complex ad hoc requests
- Influencing team members by providing clear purpose, strong support, sense of direction and ongoing information sharing
- Develop metrics and analysis that drive and inform key business objectives. This includes validating business assumptions and helping drive business decisions with data.
- Identifying data gaps and challenges and driving change with technology and business partners
- Provide critical data and analytics support to financial management processes including accruals, budgets and forecasts
- Be a positive change agent and educate all stakeholders on the value of legal data analytics and associated technology
- Develop and implement best practices that result in consistent data presentations, standardized definitions and more accurate and intuitive reporting to senior leadership
Key Skills and Experience required:
- 7 years of experience delivering data analytics solutions to business partners or clients in a legal organization
- Bachelor’s degree required. MBA and/or Legal degree preferred
- Strong statistical and financial management capabilities
- An understanding of established data analytics tools and how to effectively deploy them within a global firm
- Outstanding teamwork and relationship skills to effectively communicate at all levels of the business and embrace diversity of opinion
- Intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic and commitment to a superior work product
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate a sense of urgency
- A desire to gain an understanding of the holistic legal services world and the evolving roles of data, analytics, process reengineering and technology
- The ability to adapt to new and quickly evolving business environments
- Law Firm experience (preferred)
- Insurance experience (preferred)
